The Look: Knit From Head To Toe

So you hate sweatpants. Your mantra is borrowed from the brilliant mind of Karl Lagerfeld, who once plainly stated, “Sweatpants are a sign of defeat.” But sometimes, on your lowest days when you don't feel like putting up with the tortures of form-fitting fashions and high heels, you do consider the perks of those god-awful sweatpants that those less fashionable than you have no problem wearing, and you wonder if perhaps there is something to them, something comforting.

This is when you're at your lowest point. Eventually you come back to your senses and realize that there’s a reason why you reject sweatpants with a blind hate. But if sweatpants and the like are completely off-limits, what can a fashion girl wear when she yearns for something more comfortable?

The answer: a knit top and pants.

This outfit is fundamentally different from the schlubby outfits that the masses wear when they are getting groceries and want to show the world that they've completely given up. These sweater-suits, I'll call them, are championed by Phoebe Philo and Marc Jacobs, and we all know that anything Philo says is in, well, it’s totally in.

Both designers went for similar approaches to the sweater-suit: the top is slightly oversized; the pants, fitted with a slight flare at the ankles, and in the exact same color. Elsewhere, sportier interpretations were shown, with fitted knits in bright hues, but the idea is still the same.

To ensure that you look minimalist-chic rather than like you don’t care what you look like, pay special attention to accessories and beauty styling. A slicked-back bun or ponytail combined with dangling earrings or a statement necklace will make you look poised and put-together. I would suggest heels of some sort to elongate and keep the look from becoming too casual.

What do you think of the sweater-suit? Would you test out this look?

  1. I like each of these knit pieces individually, but I don't think I'm ready to wear all of these pieces together at the same time.

    1. I can respect that, Sarah. The great thing is, if knit from head to toe isn't your thing, you can totally just wear one half of the sweater suit!

Also, the knit Stella McCartney bag is on sale at net-a-porter and not gonna lie, I kind of want a sweater tote for grocery shopping.

      Thanks for reading, Sarah!
