How Do I Breathe With No Air?

The other day at the boutique Kit was going through some of her abandoned projects and we stumbled across a most beautiful corset. I'm pretty sure there were at least twenty different panels and a dozen pipes of boning. There's something about the antiquity of a corset that fascinates me. To know that much of the western world once wore these, it really makes you realize how much work went into clothes back in the olden times. Because corsets are such lovely garments, I've decided my next project will be making a corset of my own. I figure if I can make that, I can make anything! Here's some stuff to get me inspired.

Schoolhouse Rock

It's official: There is one more day of summer left after today. I've picked up my senior schedule and indulged in some summer favorites (Mexican food and chilling at the swanky beachfront resort, wafting in the smells of sunscreen and salt water) and I plan to enjoy every last minute of this summer. It truly has been a marvelous one, but now the school year approaches. I'm a bit nervous, what with APs and college apps and the pressures that come along with such rigorous activities, but there's one thing that gets me super pumped for heading back to the books, and that's the super cool school supplies I always get!

When calculus and French conjugations get you down, it always helps to be writing your notes in hot pink ink and storing homework in artistic folders. Here are some of my favorite back-to-school musts that are functional and absolutely adorable.

Let's Do the Timewarp Again

So the other day I made my debut runway appearance (for a charity fashion show with the design house I work for) and I promise I will put those pictures up (I just need to get the runway shots from my friend) but after the show I took advantage of my crazy up-do hairstyle and got all fancy! And a note to all of you, cat-eye sunglasses are probably the best purchase I've ever made. They are wonderful! (even if my friend is embarrassed to be seen with me in them)

I Just Came To Say Hello

A part of me doesn't want the summer to end because I'll admit I'm a bit fearful of what senior year will bring.

But a bigger part of me can't wait for fall and the new clothes I'll be able to wear.

Inspiration time!

Heading South

Last night my mommy and I saw The Help and I was most pleasantly surprised. It was an extremely entertaining movie with plenty of moments of laughter and sadness as the tale of two black maids from Jackson, Mississippi, unfolds. Emma Stone was good, but even more phenomenal was the exceptionally wicked Hilly, played by Bryce Dallas Howard, and Minny (Octavia Spencer), one of the hilariously sassy maids that confesses her stories to Stone's Skeeter. It was just a very well-done movie that I hope earns many awards because, for me, at least, it had it all.

Of course, a movie about the South in the sixties can only be so good without tremendous costumes and scenery. I feel this is where The Help pleased me the most, as the costumes were all outstanding. It has made me even more anxious to finish the sixties-inspired shirtdress I'm working on, and I feel confident with my recent purchase of pink-with-white-polka-dots cat-eye sunglasses now (even though my friend says I look "ridiculous").

Think I'm In Love

You know that feeling you get when you see an extremely attractive guy, how your brain goes all fuzzy like wrackspurts are invading it and everything around you just stops? Well, I got that feeling today. Only, there was no (straight) man in sight. No, it was in the shoe department of Nordstrom where I, Lindsey, fell in love with the most beautiful pair of Miu Miu boots.

Earlier today when making my shopping list for fall I wrote in big letters: LOOK FOR TIMELESS PIECES WITH SPECIAL EMBELLISHMENTS AND DETAILS. Well, friends, I have found that piece! Shall I describe these boots to you? Black, knee-high suede boots. Two inch heel. They seem pretty nondescript at first glance. You nod at them and think, okay, these boots are alright, but nothing special.

BUT THEN...you notice the heel. Dozens of tiny clear crystals bedazzle the chunky heel. These boots, these seemingly plain boots, suddenly become extraordinary. This tiny adjustment to plain jane boots makes them magical. They are still seasonless -black, my darling, goes with everything, you know- but those tiny jewels give a perfect touch of glamour.

I am already counting the days until these bad babies go on sale. Also, the "Miu Miu Boots or Bust!" savings fund begins now.

Get it! Oh, homonyms, you never cease to amuse me!

Anyways, get crisp and clean this fall with bold black and white maid-inspired outfits.
