Flower Child

Maybe it's the Coachella vibes I'm dreaming of or just this warmer weather, but I'm feeling a very hippie/flower child mood going on right now, and I like it. Loose tops, garlands, and tribal influences all give off a summery vibe.

Sound of Sunshine

So annoying when the day we go back to school is the prettiest one. Um, sun, spring break was last week. But regardless, I made the most of the sun and donned my most summery ensemble and taking advantage of all the new items I got for my birthday.

Kimchi Blue romper; Banana Republic sweater; Report sandals; Kate Spade bag; Ray-ban sunglasses

I GOT THE SCOUT FOR MY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry it is just so ultra exciting! I wanted the pink one but unfortunately they were all sold out. But ohmigod I love this bag so much and it is perfect.

This weekend is going to be rather stressful due to AP testing next week and PROM on Saturday! Oh gosh, this time next week I am going to be so exhausted by it all. But it's gonna be fun, just tiring and stressful. Oh well. At least I can do it all in style!

Desert Cactus

Oh, Coachella, how I long to be there every year (but I promise I shall be there next year!) I know this is a little delayed but I absolutely must talk about the fabulous fashions of the Indio music festival. My mom thinks that I would be miserable in the hot hot sun with a bunch of other sweaty people, but oh, how I wish I could go and parade my most extravagant ensembles along with the rest of the hip crowd.

Coachella fashion is basically the modern interpretation of hippie and bohemian fashions, and while that may stray a bit from my standard pink and preppy tendencies, I still am at heart a beachy California girl who can rock (natural) beach waves (and by natural I mean salt water, sand-in-your-scalp, sunkissed tresses) and floppy hats. At Coachella I feel like the indie boho girl in me could thrive and flourish, and I cannot wait until next year when I will hopefully be able to attend.

But for now I can admire from afar. Here are some super cool looks that I adore:

Here's to next year's show!

birds of a feather

So back in October I think I told my friend that feathers were going to be huge this spring and she was like, "Hmmm that's odd, you really think so?" but I could tell she didn't really believe me. However, just the other day we hung out after she went shopping for prom dresses and said to me, "You know, Lindsey, you were right! Feathers are everywhere!" Call me that That's So Raven of the fashion world.

Let's take a look at some ways the feather is taking over spring trends, shall we?

Do Your Ears Hang Low?

From Ke$ha to Gwyneth Paltrow, feather earrings have become all the rage

Mildred Pierce

Have you seen HBO's Mildred Pierce? My mom and I just finished watching it last night and while incredibly uncomfortable at times to watch (I cannot imagine having such a strained relationship with my mom, you'd think Veda was going to end up killing Mildred or something) it really was a phenomenal series. I am always quite fascinated with how Hollywood is able to bring back the past. To see my dear California in the thirties was crazy.

The acting itself was phenomenal. Kate Winslet can do no wrong. And the way she hides her accent is insane. And Evan Rachel Wood as the impossible Veda, sheesh. She's so pretty and nice in real life, and then as Veda I practically couldn't watch the show at some points, she was so awful and evil. But then there were points where snippets of kindness and innocence bled through and that's what made Evan Rachel Wood's portrayal of Veda so impossibly realistic -and scary too, to think that this psychotic girl could be real.

But plot aside, the one thing I was most impressed about was the clothing. I'm a sucker for period pieces in that I am always fascinated by the way costume designers manage to recreate accurate clothing for the time period but also make that said clothing fresh and updated. Sometimes costumes can seem stuffy and outdated, but the pieces in Mildred Pierce were ones I would want to wear today! Veda, the stuck-up Pasadena snob, of course, had the most magnificent of all the wardrobes, which only added to the conflicting feelings I had towards her.

Sometimes Life Takes You by the Hand

Top by me, Juicy Couture cardigan, Paige jeans, Report sandals, vintage pearls

Ugh, again It has been a week since I've last posted, and again I apologize. But look what I've done while I've been busy! A brand new top (strapless, corseted, and two tiers) that fiveloaves twofish may be turning in to a party dress for next year! Be excited.

Plus, I got my prom dress (Eeee!!!!!!!!!) It's a perfect mint-condition 50s prom dress and I'm so excited to wear it. I have to take it in a bit but it is seriously the most beautiful dress I've ever seen. And of course from a design perspective it is amazing to see how much work goes in to a big poof of a dress like mine. They just don't make them like they used to, huh? Here are some pictures of my dress, but you'll have to wait until prom night to see it on:

Isn't it just the most beautiful thing you've ever seen? I don't think I'd be much more excited if I had a Rodarte dress or something. This is my dream dress and I LOVE it!

And because it's vintage, I know no one else will have it! Because no one wants to show up in the same outfit as someone else. That's always awkward.

Save the Last Dance for Me

Gosh, I feel so bad, I haven't posted in what feels like forever. School has been a whirlwind lately, and for the most part I've been doing quick fashion updates via my tumblr.

But here I am, back on the blog, so let's get this show on the road:

In less than a month I will finally get to go to that dance we all hold so dear in our teenage hearts: oh yes, prom. Now I know for those of you who have already experienced high school in all its glory, prom is probably an embarrassing distant memory, but I have been brainwashed by the Disney Channel and 80s teen movies into believing prom will be the greatest moment of my young life, so cut me some slack for being excited.

But above the venue, the music, the limo, the after party, and whatever else comes with the prom extravaganza, I am (of course) most excited to find that perfect dress. And while I think I have found that dress (A pink vintage fifties prom dress that fits the definition of a wearable cupcake perfectly) it's always fun to play make-believe and pretend that I'm browsing through Rodarte and Jason Wu gowns for my perfect prom dress.

Some dresses I can only dream of wearing:

Collette Dinnigan Spring 2011
Love the beaded bodice and the petticoat-style skirt

Christian Dior Fall 2011
I think I mentioned this before when reviewing Dior's fall show, but man, this dress is gorgeous

Stella McCartney Fall 2011
I always love a good halter, and the polka dot overlay is stunning

Valentino Fall 2010 Couture
A bubble skirt and a pop of pink are sure to make a statement

Alexander McQueen Fall 2008

If I'm going for ultra-dramatic

Christian Lacroix Spring 2009 Couture

I've always loved Lacroix, and this dress is perfectly girly for me!

Rodarte Fall 2008

I remember seeing this dress at Barney's and falling in love- it's like a fairy dress!
